WHO Essential Diagnostic List

WHO Essential Diagnostic List

The EDL offers evidence-based recommendations to support countries in choosing the diagnostics they need for a national essential in vitro diagnostics list (NEDL), a strategic tool to improve access to diagnostic testing for all. The EDL recommends test categories – e.g., for anaemia, pregnancy, or malaria – that should be available at primary care facilities with no laboratories. It also recommends tests that must be done in a laboratory – e.g., tests for different types of cancers – and should be available at district and regional hospitals/ laboratories, and reference laboratories.
